I painted this piece on canvas with my friend SeaCreative on July 2010 at the Museo della Scienza e della Tecnica of Milano for the “La Forma delle Reti” exhibition.
It’s a tribute to an artist that’s been an inspiration for many, myself included: Rammellzee. He died at 49 years just one month before, on June 2010. When I was just a kid, Rammellzee gave me the WORDS to explain out to everybody what I was doin with that spraycans in my hands. He was a true king and his example will not be forgotten.

    Vuoi muoverti in skate senza doverlo spingere? Si: proprio senza dover mettere piede a terra… è possibile, anche per lunghe distanze, attraverso una tecnica che si chiama PUMPING.

    Spiegarlo è più complicato che impararlo: in poche parole si tratta di infondere alla tavola un movimento basculante e ritmato che scaricandosi sul truck anteriore genera energia di ritorno. Nel far questo si utilizza tutto il corpo, gambe, bacino, braccia. Se con il movimento giusto impari a catturare e poi “rilanciare” questa energia, la tavola si muoverà in avanti senza bisogno di spingere.

        Long Distance Skateboarding

        Spingere uno skateboard per il gusto di macinare chilometri scivolando sull’asfalto ha il suo fascino: il numero degli sportivi che praticano questa disciplina è in continua ascesa dal 2005 (beh, relativamente parlando!) anche se imprese “record” non sono mai mancate neppure nei decenni precedenti, soprattutto al fine di raccogliere fondi per beneficenza.
        Oggi decine di sportivi attraversano intere nazioni in viaggi estremi ed avventurosi, affrontano maratone ufficiali ormai famose o semplicemente si allenano quotidianamente.
        Parliamo di longboard skate (nel linguaggio comune vi si riferisce solo come LONGBOARD) e non di street/pool skate perchè nel longboard forme, dimensioni e “accessori” (ruote, truck e gommini) contano (e costano) molto di più. Inutile dire che come sempre è l’atleta che fa la differenza e se poi vorrete spingere per 100km un tagliere con 4 rotelle sotto, siete liberissimi di farlo.

        L’IDSA – International Distance Skateboarding Association – organizza gare e mantiene la graduatoria e la lista ufficiale dei record a livello internazionale. Giusto per farvi un’idea, questo è stato l’Ultraskate 2013 a Miami:

            This hall of fame has been painted for decades. It used to be TGF/UK crew‘s headquarter during the 90s, nowadays you can still see new pieces from Styng 253, Virus, Ghen, Thero and a few others.
            Around the year 2000 I met for the first time one of the best writers of Milano, Thero. I was really impressed by his style, something different from everything you could see around in the city. This means being able to think by yourself and be indipendent, add to this that Thero was part of the UK crew, one of Milano’s oldschool crews, and he definitely got my attention. This piece has been the first one painted at his hall of fame, during a nice day with him, Ope Bn and Virus UK.
            Later on Thero become a proud THP family member… we stayed in touch, we met many other times, we started… being friends.  He is a very positive person, very kind, a smart engineer with a creative mind and a good father. Graffiti writing makes possible to meet people like him.
